Hole Saw Size Chart - I've tried searching online but since 1.25 is a standard tailpiece size it's really messing up my search. I've bought a couple universal fit drains at the local big box store but they're too big to fit in the sink hole. Either side joist would have to be sistered, glue and screw and of course hangars. Using shower adhesive, we filled the hole, only about 2 in, then covered w/ a blank plastic electrical plate. Start wrapping tightly an inch or two before the hole, continue wrapping with generous overlaps, finish an inch or two past the hole. I have an older sink that has a drain hole that is about 1.25 diameter.

The 20 of rat hole to catch the sand is not a good idea. Well, we tried a temporary and not so esthetically pleasing repair. Hopefully that will take for awhile.
